My husband and I stayed at the Mooring last summer. While I wasn't in love with the location because there really isn't a clear view of the ocean, the building is very cute and they had a good parking area which was nice since parking can be a pain in Cape May. Upon arrival, we were very rushed and stressed because we had been caught in a huge traffic jam that lasted a few hours on our way to Cape May. The innkeeper was so polite and laid back that we instantly forgot about our rough travels and instantly went into vacation mode. Our room was decorated beautifully and the bed was extra comfy. We had a large balcony which, on one hand, was great but, on the other hand, wasn't exactly that great because we had to share it with a couple we didn't know. In the end, it worked out though because they didn't use the balcony that often. The breakfasts were delicious and all the staff were warm and friendly. The price for our room was considerably lower than many of the other b and b's around and it was definitely worth what we paid. I would also like to second what Craig S. said about Vince being knowledgeable about the area, he is an absolute wealth of information and gave us everything from history to directions to recommendations. Most helpful indeed. I will certainly recommend the Mooring to friends and family.

Location: Perfect - a block from the beach and just far enough away from the crowds Breakfast: FABULOUS - Leslie is a chef! Accommodations: Stayed in Room 14, which is one of three rooms on the third floor. Small compared to the other rooms, but the price fairly reflected it and it was plenty of space for two people. Very clean and well-kept! My husband and I wanted a relaxing, beach-side vacation, and the Mooring B&B in Cape May offered all of that! Upon arrival, Leslie greeted us, showed us around the beautiful Victorian-style home, and then Vince (a Cape May native) offered us some suggestions on places to eat (Pier House, Mario's Pizza and Oyster Bay were some of his top picks). We felt right at home immediately! We stayed in room 14, which is one of the smaller rooms on the third floor, but the price fairly reflected that. The room is one of three on the third floor (because it's on the top floor it was nice and private), and has a comfy queen bed, air conditioning and a single stand up shower. Most of our time at the house was spent on the breezy front porch (great people watching!) or in the dining area. The house is a block from the beach, the room was well-kept and the breakfast (served from 8:30-10 in the dining room at individual tables) was INCREDIBLE. If we go back to Cape May, we will be going back to the Mooring B&B. Thank you Leslie and Vince for a great week!

Very nice stay over 4th of July weekend. Vince (the owner) can be a little chatty, but he is full of helpful tidbits and advice. The breakfast was solid....but not world-class. One egg dish and one fancy French toast dish offered each morning. Got a little dull. But room was pleasant, air-conditioned and quiet, loved sitting on their front porch. Easy walk to the beach and outdoor showers a big plus!

I'm adding this first paragraph to my review after having read Me M's review from 2011. She cites two problems which should be addressed: First, I have never noticed any mosquitos around The Mooring. Granted, I spend most of my time inside or on the second floor balcony of Room 8, but in my experience, there has never been a mosquito problem. Second, expecting a small B&B to come up with breakfast two hours before their normal seating is unreasonable. A few days ago, I heard a couple ask about getting breakfast at 8:00 (thirty minutes early) and Vince did indeed make arrangements for yogurt, coffee and muffins. The fact is, this is NOT a hotel, and it is run by just two people. Speaking to Me M's comparison to a hotel; if one arrived at the breakfast room of a Holiday Inn Express two hours early, one would be equally disappointed. So I hope anyone researching The Mooring will take this information into account to mitigate Me M's complaints. My original review follows... This (2012) is the fifth year my wife and I have stayed at The Mooring for about a week in August, and we have every intention of returning in 2013. It's my understanding that The Mooring is the only B&B in Cape May that was originally designed as a rooming house. The house is excellently maintained and luxuriously appointed with furnishings and fixtures that evoke the Victorian period. The co-owners, Leslie and Vince have always gone beyond treating us as valued guests -- making us feel instead like good friends. The breakfasts are imaginative, satisfying and deliciously prepared, with each room having its own table. Afternoon tea is also served with iced tea and some light sweets. Off-street, reserved-space parking comes with the higher-priced rooms, which as anyone who has tried to park during summer in Cape May knows, is an important feature. The location is excellent. It's about a block and a half from the beach near Convention Hall, and about a ten-minute walk to Washington Mall and downtown. Nicely-appointed outside showers are available, as well as outside clothes lines. Beach towels are provided in addition to the room towels. There is a communal guest kitchen on the ground floor with a microwave, refrigerator-freezer, coffee maker, dishware, utensils and so on. There is also a second communal refrigerator-freezer on the third floor. Vince is an excellent source of information about Cape May and the area, as well as the best restaurants. Having been a fixture in Cape May himself for so long, Vince knows many of the restaurant owners, and has been known to get reservations for his guests when they, themselves have not. We've stayed in Rooms 8, 2 and 16. All three are beautifully appointed, immaculately clean and very comfortable. Room 8 is the largest and most expensive room. It's actually a suite, having a bedroom, a living room, a newly updated bath and is one of only two rooms with its own balcony. Unlike the other rooms in which we've stayed, Room 8 has a wall-mounted split-system air conditioner that easily cools the entire suite while remaining virtually silent. The other rooms have window units that do a fine job, but are louder. Room 2 is the only room with its own kitchenette, including a sink, microwave, coffee maker and small refrigerator-freezer. It also has a separate entrance that does not require entering the main house first. It also has a second entrance through the kitchenette leading directly to the parking lot and the room's assigned space.

Room 1- great for friends or small families; go upstairs for something a little more private and intimate! Food- AMAZING! Location- block from the beach and about 5-10 minutes from the Washington St. Mall, bike rentals across the street. Owners- can't be beat!! Two girlfriends and I went down to Cape May for a quaint bachelorette experience, and stayed in Room 1 while there. To say that Vince and Leslie were gracious hosts would be an understatement! We had a late arrival on Friday night, and getting in and settled was seamless. We met Vince on Saturday morning at breakfast, where he set a separate table for our odd-sized party of three. In addition to an amazing continental breakfast serving muffins, banana bread, toast and fruit, we were offered greek yogurt with fruit and granola, banana fosters french toast (blueberry crumble on the second day), and a savory egg option (migas on day one and a basil and fresh mozzarella scramble on the second). Vince was able to provide great information about things to do around town, restaurant recommendations, etc. He gave us the name of a great shopping area- the west end garage- that ended up being an excellent place to grab a local artist's piece. We were a block away from the beach; towels were provided by Vince and Leslie. The inn is absolutely beautiful and has a wonderful porch with rocking chairs- a great spot to read a book! We could hear some other people while in room 1, and it is not the most private of rooms (the stain glass windows open onto the front porch), but we were not bothered by this. The room perfectly suited our needs, and the innkeepers were so warm and inviting- we couldn't stop commenting on how wonderful the stay was. Thank you, Vince and Leslie!

My husband and I stayed here for the first time and had a really enjoyable experience. Upon arriving at the Mooring, we were greeted at the door by one of the owners, Vince, who is full of energy and extremely nice. Vince gave us the grand tour of the B&B and then showed us to our room. The house itself is really very special. Every single thing has an antique flare to it, whether it be the cups used for morning/afternoon tea, the couches, photos on the wall, staircase, decor, etc. You really feel like you step back in time when you're here. You can tell the owners take immense pride in the appearance and are constantly maintaining the house. The location is great! It took us 10 minutes to walk to the town center and it's just steps away from the beach. The breakfasts were phenomenal and the service was great. Vince suggested several local restaurants and even offered to call and make our reservation which was really helpful as we had never been to Cape May before. Only a few minor disappointments. Our bed was really uncomfortable and could certainly use an upgrade (we stayed in room #2 with the private entrance/kitchen/parking). We both woke up with back aches because the mattress is sinking in the middle Also, because room #2 is located on the bottom floor, you hear every single noise in the house. The kitchen must be located right behind our bathroom because we could hear full on conversations starting at 7 am which made for sleeping in on our vacation impossible. Also, we were woken up by the other guests coming down the squeaky stair case from the upper floors each morning as well. I suppose the noise comes with the territory of an old house though. All in all, we really enjoyed our B&B experience and would definitely come back. We would just request a different room on one of the higher floors to avoid the noise.
